News...
Well it's news to us!
This page lists recent events that we would like to share with you;
Bungalow Blog:
- 14/04/07 - 100 eggs - after exactly 2 months since Dave laid her
first egg we have reached 100 eggs laid at our bungalow. We have given
some away as we cannot possibly eat that many eggs.
- 11/04/07 - We spent Easter doing stuff around the bungalow. The
most exciting bit was sowing all our seeds. We have planted a number of
flowers and herbs, plus numerous vegetables including; Radish, Lettuce,
Tomatoes, Strawberries and soon to come runner beans and potatoes. I may
try and add this to the recipe section of the site as this page is not that up
to date. Watch this space for more news.
- 31/03/07 - Jenson passed away peacefully.
- 23/03/07 - Three eggs today. Calm has been restored with no
outright winner and the girls have laid us three wonderful eggs today.
- 14/03/07 - The pecking order in the coop is being decided. Dave
has had his crown stolen and it seems that Lillian wants to rule the roost.
Jenson and Doris have no intention of being contenders they are just keeping
their heads down. There has been changes in the sleeping places nightly
and it is still not clear which girl has become the new leader. As Lil has
been in the number one sleeping spot in the coop she is certainly the favourite
to take the title. However never under-estimate the might of Dave!
- 11/03/07 - Well the new arrivals have helped the egg production.
We had three eggs today. This means that we will be producing more than we
can consume so the surplus will sold. The proceeds will help towards the
feeding and general maintenance of the chicken coop and run.
- 11/03/07 - It's the 13th day on the trot that Dave has laid an egg.
Not having kept chickens before this may well be normal, but it seems an awful
lot to us. We'll keep counting, but we will let Dave have a day off.
- 10/03/07 - Doris and Lillian have arrived at Our Bungalow. Read
about them on our chickens page. They are ex-battery hens and are spending
their retirement in the coop at Our Bungalow.
- 05/03/07 - I had a call from Jean at the BHWT yesterday and they have
a rescue on Saturday. We have decided to collect two of these hens and
they will be nursed to full health and live a happy retirement at our bungalow.
- 04/03/07 - Jenson has not been herself over the last couple of days.
She has no physical symptoms and is still eating etc. but she just seems more
docile and is easy to pick up. One theory is that she is about to come
into lay, although we know that she does not like the wet weather and we have
had more than our fair share of that recently. We'll keep a close eye on
her.
- 24/02/07 - Dave laid her 12th egg today. That's her first Dozen in
thirteen days. Not bad going, she deserves a day off tomorrow!
- 21/02/07 - We have started telling people about the website and we have been
getting a great response from friends and family. Also we have received a
number of ideas for the site including a web cam so you can see the chickens.
This is a possibility, but see the experts

- 21/02/07 - Keep an eye on our chickens page for
the current egg count
- 14/02/07 - The third egg was collected today, it seems we are on our way to
a regular supply of eggs.
- 13/02/07 - Well it was very exciting today. Jamie discovered the first
egg in the chicken coup. It was laid by Dave the day before on the 12th
and was perfect. Later this evening a second egg was found which was laid
this morning. Kelly and Jamie had boiled eggs and soldiers for tea and
they tasted great. The first of many fresh free range home grown eggs!
